Posted by admin in Travel

Once known as Talang or Tha-Laang, Phuket is the largest of the islands in Thailand. Located 860 kilometers south of Bangkok and connected to the mainland by the Sarasin Bridge, Phuket is actually 40 separate islands, the large, main island and a collection of 39 smaller surrounding islands. Phuket is approximately the same size as Singapore.

As with most islands, the main attractions on Phuket are its many beaches. Offering beautiful vistas of white sand kissing the Andaman Sea, the island offers countless opportunities for relaxation, romance, and recreation. Taking a boat to one of the smaller islands only multiplies the choices. Beaches range from popular holiday locations offering markets, restaurants and clubs to secluded, quiet areas. Swimming, boating, sailing and snorkeling are a few of the more popular beach activities, along with simply laying in the sun and enjoying the views.

The island is more than just beaches. There are several large parks and forest reserves in the interior of Phuket, including the Khao Phra Thaeo National park which includes a virgin rainforest and several scenic waterfalls. Sirinat Marine National Park includes not only coastline, but extends miles into the sea and houses coral reefs, marine life, and even a few shipwrecks.

Visitors to the island will find numerous beach resorts, five star hotels Phuket, and private rentals of cottages and villas providing a great base from which to explore the island. The food on the island is classic Thai with an emphasis on the freshest seafood. The island hosts several festivals and celebrations throughout the year which can make a trip to Phuket even more interesting.
