Mallorca Port d’Andratx
Posted by in TravelThe Port d’Andratx is a beautiful harbor located approximately 30 miles Southwest of the capital city of Mallorca, Palma. The area has seen tremendous growth in the recent past and has about 8000 permanent residents. Many foreigners choose this area of the island for their homes, and it has a large population of German residents. The harbor has been called the pearl of the island and is arguably one of the most beautiful. Andratx is nestled in among the bay and the Tramuntana mountains offering unique perspectives and scenery. This is the choice location not only for residents, but a great number of tourists who come to the harbor for boating, diving and sightseeing adventures. Guests in 5 star Mallorca hotels in Palma frequently make the scenic journey to these shores.
People are amazed when first approaching the harbor and catch their first glimpse of the beautiful bay. One side is filled with boats and yachts while other is where the fishing trawlers are docked. It is here that boaters and fishermen begin their excursions to the canal that will lead to the nearby island of Ibiza. Both island residents and visitors enjoy the daily spectacle of watching the fisherman cut into harbor. This is an incredible sight and regularly gathers a large crowd. The sunset on the bay is one of the most beautiful and romantic sights around.
The Tramuntana mountains near the harbor are grand in size and spectacle. They rise to over 1,500 meters and offer land bound individuals excellent hiking and climbing possibilities. There are amazing views of the island and the Mediterranean Sea from the mountain. The mountains are high enough that it is possible to enjoy some adventures in the snow in winter months. Tours are available for biking enthusiasts and the area is full of runners who enjoy the splendor of nature on their daily jaunts. Considering the harbor’s closeness to Palma, a day’s trip here provides beauty and change from some of the other entertainment aspects of the city.
