New York’s Metropolitan Museum of Art boasts a collection spanning over 5000 years. It has numerous curatorial departments that focus on specific time periods, genres and mediums used. Some of these departments include ancient relics and artifacts from around the world. Others include works by famous painters from popular periods. Some of the departments are the Greek and Roman Art, Modern Art, Musical Instruments and the Robert Lehman Collection. The Met is one of the cultural prides of New York and also serves as one of its most popular tourist attractions. Tourists who are in the city and staying in four star New York hotels take advantage of this great opportunity to view some of the greatest works of art in the world.

The Greek and Roman Art collection includes more than 5,300 pieces. It features work from Greece, Rome Etruria, and Cyprus as well as some of the settlements associated with Greek and Roman empires. Its works date forward to the 4th century C.E. There are fabulous marble, bronze and terracotta sculptures, from this period. It also houses wall paintings, jewelry and glass and utilitarian objects. The Modern Art department is an impressive selection of major and minor works from America and Europe. Paintings and sculptures as well as architectural designs of some of the most prominent artists in the world are found here.

The Musical Instruments section is a unique and diverse collection of instruments from around the world. It represents the historical importance of music to cultures and societies throughout history and includes everything from koras to zithers. The Robert Lehman Collection includes donated pieces from the Northern Italian and its regional Renaissance period. These are some of the most renowned paintings and painters from the time. Some of the highlights include Botticelli’s The Annunciation, Rembrandt’s Portrait of Gerard de Lairesse and El Greco’s Christ Carrying the Cross, among many numerous others.
