Backyard Resort

When family and guest see our little cute bungalow, they have no idea of the luscious oasis we created for ourselves in our backyard. But, when then enter our backyard, they are in awe and speechless. They are amazed that they are in a backyard of a residence and not at some resort. My husband and I worked every weekend to create our little backyard resort.

We surrounded the entire yard with bamboo, tropical plants and oak trees. We did this so we would have the feeling of seclusion, plus accommodate a large party with ease. We found the real secrets for entertaining our guests were to create intimate seating throughout the space. These settings get the feel of romance. We can give any size party with how we arranged the seating because guests can break up into the different ‘zones’ and still feel comfortable and be a part of the party.

Our pool is our pride and joy, we made sure it was built with an ‘infinity edge’. This makes the pool seem to flow into the lake. Were in reality, the water flows into a recirculation pit, keeping the pool clean and creating the constant sound of water falling. Not only is the ‘infinity edge’ good for the lake effect, it also helps with all the mature oak trees surrounding the property. Oak trees are messy so ‘the vanishing edge’ works like a skimmer, moving the fallen leaves out of the pool into the recirculation area virtually making our pool maintenance free.

We’ve been looking into outdoor sinks and built in grills, but for now our pool is the focal point to our outdoor entertainment. It provides an amazing view and in the evenings it glows and sparkles inviting anyone sitting in our music room, kitchen or family room to come on outside, sit, swim and have fun.
