Barcelona
Posted by in TravelI was mesmerised by the Salvatore Dali painting the Persistence of Memory the first time I saw it when I was a young child. I saw it reproduced in an art book my mom had from when she was in art school. The mysterious landscape captured my attention. I could not stop starring at it every time I opened that book. The limp clock faces hanging on branches barren and dry as if wet land scape had gone dry and barren. I was curious what did this mean? I suppose that is a question that sill could be answered. This painting hangs in New York cities Museum of Modern Art. In high school I did finally see it in person. It is a small canvas, bit extremely detailed. The placard stated the landscape was inspired by the Catalan landscape in Spain. I was intrigued, thinking that was something I wanted to see in person. I learned more about Salvatore Dali and his life. I learned about Spanish art beginning with the surrealists then working my way out in both directions. I became fascinated with the history of Spanish art. All along thinking one day i would go and visit. Seeing the places where Salvatore Dali lives and grew up. The castle he bought and gave to his wife Gala. his museum Theater in Claques. So it made perfect sense to book accommodations at five star Barcelona hotels for a great jumping off point to see all these locations. Being able to take day trips to see most of the things I wanted to see that are not in the city of Barcelona itself. It turned out to be perfect. So much to see and absorb in Barcelona and so much to do in the surrounding area we ended up adding in so many extras the list of what we came to see didn’t get fully attended to. That will be OK, more to do on another trip.
