The slow walk in Florence

Posted by admin in Travel

I have exactly three days in Florence before I head back the UK. I think I’m staying during a heat wave, because it’s another hot scorcher of a day. As soon as I stepped out of one of the best hotels Florence Italy has to offer all the tourist and me, I was baked. But, not deterred from going to a little cafe’ right around the corner and ordered a tasty cheese panini for breakfast, before I headed off, slowly, into the city.

Slowly, because my calves were giving me the riot act from the almost 10 hours of all the walking and then standing I did yesterday. So, today I’m forced to take it easy. I should’ve done some stretching exercises before my trek yesterday, but I had no idea that I’d be walking all over the place, I just couldn’t help myself. On my way into the city, I passed a tour group of Japanese people and one of the tourist was wearing a t-shirt saying ‘travel happens’. I found that funny.

I made it to the Giardino di Boboli and decided to chill out there for most of the day, since I didn’t like the prospect of walking back into the city, and I really liked the moseying around through all the Italian plants. I found a lovely spot near a big pond that had a fountain. I relaxed on a cool stone bench, it was cool because it was always in the shade. After a good rest of my legs, I went to the Pompei garden exhibit, but I didn’t find it all that interesting, it just looked like a bunch of weeds to me. So, after my chill out for the best part of the day, I headed back, slowly, to my hotel. I passed an Italian cat who I sweat when it meowed it also gestured with it’s paws. Italian cats, go figure.
