I couldn’t image having any more fun in Philadelphia, or actually anywhere else for that matter, than what I had last year while I was there visiting with some friends. It all started when Kyle came up with the idea that the four of us go because he really wanted to visit this girl that he had met over the summer and, as what should be obvious at this point, she lived there. So, all four of us piled into Mike’s Jeep Wrangler and we made a road trip out of it. To be honest I had my hesitations and concerns before we left, but from the moment we through are bags in the Jeep and piled in after them we began to have a great time.
We didn’t do a whole lot on the road except eat the donuts and chips that Troy brought. He was actually the only one who thought to bring food, and while he only brought it for himself, thinking we would all bring some as well, fortunately he has a huge appetite and there was plenty to go around. We told a lot of jokes and sang a lot of songs and that sort of thing. Oh, and I brought my guitar, yeah, I’m that guy, and we just really enjoyed being out on the road like that.
So, of course none of that compares to what we experienced once we reached Philadelphia. Fortunately Kyle had planned ahead and reserved a couple of rooms for us and we just had to show up. Predictably, one of the first things we did was find a cheese steak sandwich and though I hate to promote stereotypes, this one is really true, they’re great. Meanwhile, on our first night in town we went to a place called McGillin’s Olde Ale House. It was incredible. Can you believe it dates from something like 1860? There are so many historic buildings that are still functioning that it just creates a really cool atmosphere for the city. Anyway, we just continued to have fun times while we were there. I’d go back anytime.
