Ken Griffey Jr, is one of the all-time most famous people to ever be associated with the city and also one of the most popular. He played in the outfield for the Cincinnati Reds from 2000 through 2008 until his trade to Seattle. Levi Cotton is another famous Cincinnatian though his tenure dates back much further. He was one of the major white abolitionists and is considered by many historians to be the father of the Underground Railroad .

Reverend Fred Shuttelsworth was a major activist in the civil rights movement and settled in Cincinnati after his move from Birmingham. He is one of the most famous reverends from the period and his efforts are honored and long remembered. Artie Matthews was an American composer and musician who moved to Cincinnati in 1916. He became a church organist upon his arrival and is well remembered for his ragtime music. He has been compared to Scott Joplin, James Scott and Joseph Lamb.
