Shell Art in Cape Town

Posted by admin in Travel

It is still a somewhat lucrative business to sell sea shells down by the sea shore. It’s a lot easier, however, to buy them. That’s always been the way, and that’s why it’s still lucrative. Sea shells for sale can seem like a little bit of overkill in some places, where it’s easy enough to walk the sands and find the things that might be particularly eye-catching for that moment. For some beaches, however, there are some rather remarkable examples of what happens at the bottom of the sea, and Cape Town’s beaches are considered to be some of the very finest in the world.

There are plenty of small shops in town that sell some brilliant shells, as well as shell mirrors, stones and driftwood, and a whole array of fascinating crafts. Noordhoek Farm Village also offers classes in the craft of seashell decoration. It’s a part of life here, and the folks that have been combing these beaches for generations have a very particular eye.

It can be a real gift to find the right shell at the right time. Sometimes, the stay at the Cape Town hotels is just not long enough to enjoy the many attractions the city offers but fortunately, there are plenty of resources where one can bring back the perfect shell, or even get a taste of what shell art can become in their own hands.
